The edges of the sidewall boards are suppose to overlap the edges of the ceiling boards which provides a much stronger joint at the corners. And you really screwed up by not gluing.

The USG handbook points out that gluing the board makes the entire structure much stronger. Your drywall job is much weaker than one done properly.
